Sweater to Capelet Refashion Tutorial

I just love seeing all the capelets and the different takes on them in all the stores. Here's one you can wear in the winter or spring. (and it will take you all of 10 minutes)
Get a big sweater and turn it upside down. Cut it in half. Sew the piece where you cut it.
Flip it over and put it on!! You can wear it off shoulder,
or symetrical!

I just love these easy to do fashions!

Christmas Photo Shoot

We did our Christmas photos with our amazing friend and photographer, Emmy. She came up with this amazing idea to do little stars on chalkboard cloth that I got at Harts. I made these outfits for the girls just for the shoot and for Christmas.

Isabel's was red silk tiered with a red silk bow.

Ava's was different shades of pink silk, chiffon and cotton sateen.

Cuddling Ava.

Loving sisters.

Giselle's was ruffle upon ruffle of pink and coral jersey.

This was the outfit I made for myself. It is a peach colored, high necked shirt with pleats and a linen paper bag waist skirt with deep pockets. ( this was one of my new designs and I have it coming in a real photo shoot soon!!)

And here is my sweet husband and I.

And here is our sweet friend we owe it all to. I know you've seen her amazing blog, Grieving Gracefully. Take a look for some beautiful words and stunning visuals that imparts wisdom far beyond her years.

Now, just trying to choose which one for our card. Any favorites????

Thanksgiving Dresses

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. It's been such a lovely couple of days.

Here are the dresses I made for the girls for the day.
I chose bright, popping fall colors or eggplant, curry, pumpkin and sage.

I wanted simple, clean lines.

They all had these crocheted button back closures.

Although hard to see, they had a small pleat on the front neckline. We did lots of fun fall things like throwing leaves...

...picking persimmons...
...and eating them, too...

...and loving the family that God has blessed us with.

I'm SOOOOO excited because although I love refashioning, I love designing and making things from scratch the most. So I went a little nuts over the past 3 days and made 5 original pieces for myself and I can't wait to show them all to you!!!

I hope you all had much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

Love Letter Pillow

I got this idea from a pillow I saw at Pottery Barn. It's a love letter pillow. We're big note and letter writers in this family so I loved the idea of having a specific place you could leave each other little notes. I made one for our bed in similar tones of our bedding.
You really can't see this fabric, but it's a gold dusted linen that's gorgeous! If you don't have an embroidery feature, you could cut out the letters in a different fabric or felt!

You can leave words of love or encouragement for a sweet surprise.

I think these would make a wonderful gift!

Isabel left us a note in it yesterday!
It's a fun way to foster love and communication in the home.

Ways to Cover Stained Shirts

I went through the girls shirts the other day so frustrated by all the stains! So here are some ideas of ways to cover them up!

I did a draping collar and added these silk rosettes on a removable pin.

While getting this one to photograph, Giselle dumped chocolate milk all over it. So here it is, stains and all!

It's a big flower in a silvery/white fabric. It's sort of like my Marjorie top!
A simple silk bow.
Brown on brown jersey ruffles.

And, finally, a dusty pink draping neckline with a little jersey bow.
Now they're good as new!!

Sweater Vest Refashion Tutorial

This one is too easy. Seriously.
I love the sweater vest look.

We're going to make this one! (Isn't it cuter, if I do say so myself?)
I got this sweater at my thrift store for $1.50.
We need to cut the sleeves off. I cut them right inbetween the seam where they are attached. That way it won't unravel.
Cut both of them off. I didn't need to finish the edges on mine, but if you do there are a couple ways you can do it. ONE: Fold the seam under and stitch it with your machine. TWO: Find some cool bias tape and attach that. You can even hand stitch it with embroidery thread for a very Free People look!

Cut the sleeves open.
After cutting them open cut the sleeves in half.

Trim them so they are equal width.
Sew them together. Depending on your waist size, you may need three or four strips.

Here is the finished product.
I love how the shoulders flare a bit.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Refashion Workshop Success!!

I just had the most amazing group of women come to my house for my workshop, and let me tell you- we had a blast!
Janelle, Sarah, Julia, Kirsten, Gabe and I had a great time together and here's some of their finished products.

Janelle made this shirt and one more that I forgot to photograph :(

Aren't those colors great??
Kirsten made this black shirt...

...and this adorable one.

Gabe did this one ...

...with this gorgeous side detail!
Sarah made this dramatic red one!

I don't know why I forgot to take pictures of Julia's, but she came away with a shirt, a skirt AND legwarmers!!

We had a WONDERFUL time together! It was nice because in addition to the shirts they finished, they got to see what everyone else was doing and could walk away knowing how to do those, as well.
And we just had great women time together.

It was SUCH a success that I'm throwing together another one before the holidays!

I will be doing a FLOWER PIN workshop on Saturday, December 12th from 10:30-1:30.

I will provide ALL the materials for you to make at least 5 flower pins that you can keep or giveaway as Christmas gifts.

All you need to bring is your machine and I'll provide many different fabrics for different flower pin ideas.

The cost for the three hour workshop, including materials, is $70. Remember, you'll come away with at least 5 pins and with the skills to know how to make your own. They are perfect for family, teachers, children, yourself...... :)
You can put them on pins, headbands, clothing, bags, scarves... the list goes on!
I live in the Santa Cruz County area. If you're interested in the workshop, email me for address details.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

New to my Etsy Shop

I have two new items that I adore in my etsy shop. One is this silk and vintage pearl necklace with a vintage rhinestone pin.

The second item is one of my favorites, thus far. It is a fabric collar, full of detail and drama. It is in shades of black and blue.
Here's a picture of it on. It is set on pins and can transfer from shirt to dress to anything!

And I want to thank you ALL for the success of my etsy shop and blog. I'm so grateful for my followers and for all your support. I'm flattered EVERY time I make a sale, get a comment, an email... Each on motivates me to go on, so thank you, friends.
